Freddie Mercury – The Untold Story – Part 06 (06/12)
This 2 hour special is absolutely excellent! It was created by the same people that made the ‘Magic Years’ series and the ‘Champions of the World’ video. There are interviews with his mom, sister, aunt, cousin, Brian May, Roger Taylor, Peter Freestone (his personal assistant), Mary Austin (love of his life and life long best friend), Jim Hutton (his last live in lover), a member of his 1st band The Hectics, several of his close friends. Have the tissues ready, as you’re almost guaranteed to shed a tear at the end of it!

Ha, she can barely admit here that he was gay. She hems and haws her way around it. It takes her 5 minutes to explain what she could have said in seconds. When she does actually say the word “gay” she stutters it out like it is a dirty word. Supportive, yeah, whatever.
he was a briliant man
is the baby Mary’s holding hers?
1:47 Pure hotness. ;P
I love how Mary and Freddie’s unconditional love for each other. They would do anything to make the other the happiest they could be even if it meant letting them go. Mary looks so radiant when she talks about witnessing Freddie grow into who he became.
@pinkairwares indeed, you’re absolutely right. I think even in 1991 when he died, Freddie’s way of life still suffered ridicule. I’m glad things have changed as much as they have in the last 20 years.
yeah by the way there are two versions of love of my life the piano version that you can find at the night at the opera album and the acoustic guitar version that came out in late seventies
when mary ir talking about when freddie ended the relationship, she struggles to find the right words but even so she and freddie had a deep trusting friendship. Am glad freddie had somebody like her. She never judged him and shd was always there for him
i don’t know about him but I wouldn’tve ended that relationship… Its still hard to accept gayness as inborn because its so counter to evolution… I hope science will give the final word on this soon
Freddie sei sempre stato il mio idolo e lo sarai per sempre!
You are in the wrong.
oberon where do you find these gigs ??
The slow piano for Love of My Life is beautiful.
If Freddie trusted her till the end of his life , i would trust her too
He left Mary Austin for boys ahhhhhh
Life is never black and white. What a wonderful woman she is to understand. Happy Birthday Freddie…..i will always love you.
what is the song at first seconds od video ???
he was very honest
She loved him and he loved her. Life isn’t always black and white and in those days homosexuality was only just being given the understanding we have now reached. As children they both would have had views moulded by society at that time. It must have been very difficult for them both.
we still love you freddie!!!!!
It seems to me that in the end she cared more about his money than about what he would have thought of her behaviour, for instance.
Freddie seemed to love her more though. At least the will would seem to indicate that and the fact he asked her to spread his ashes in a location only she knows. Freddie did say in a 1985 interview that all his lovers asked him why they couldn’t replace Mary Austin. Couldn’t it be that both Mary and Jim were jealous of each other? I think she genuinely cared for Freddie and that is why she looks the way she does in this interview.
I think it’s a conspiracy theory to say ALL of them were jealous. Even if u have doubts about Jim-it would be riddiculous to claim that Peter & many others around @Garden Lodge got jealous all of a sudden…The way she puts it looks like she finds herself an understanding person. But-all conspiracy theories aside – don’t you think SHE looks like the jealous one?I don’t want to sound all teary and silly, but it looked like Jim and Freddie loved eachother – & Mary found it impossible to accept.
You are going to have to be more specific. What pose? Where exactly does she say “I was so understanding”? That in itself also isn’t that bad. Also, don’t you think there were reasons Freddie Mercury adored her? How do you know so much about her attitude toward Freddie’s partners? How do we know someone like Jim Hutton wasn’t jealous of Freddie’s relationship with her?
Oh come on. You know He adored her. He would try to justify her behaviour, just as anybody in that situation would.
And, I mean, can’t you see that pose? “I was so understanding” and so on… I am very sorry to say that her attitude towards Freddie’s partners seems (from what we know, ofc.) not to have been a very supportive or welcoming one.
