What is the best way to find out if a Personal Assistant Job by email is a scam?

Question by remyrainy: What is the best way to find out if a Personal Assistant Job by email is a scam?
What questions would I ask a possible Employer, to be sure they are not trying to scam or use my good name to their advantage. I am wanting to be an Personal Assistant to a Woman, who so far has asked me to cash personal checks at my Bank & wire out. I have not, nor have I set up an account for her Friend in a City Wide internet Ad, so he may find a PA also.

This one’s easy. It’s a scam. No question about it. It’s a very common scam going around right now.

It’s a variation on this scam described on snopes.com :

  1. not 2 B fooled says:

any time you are asked for money or personal info (SS#, bank acct, etc) it is a biggie of a scam – run away!!

  2. Ed Atun says:

No legitimate person would hire someone to cash checks for her. That just wouldn’t happen in the real world. It is part of the world of scammers on the internet. That is not Personal Assistant; that is check-fraud. You cash counterfeit checks for $ 2,000 and forward $ 1,500 on to the address she gives you. Your money is valid and gets cashed and spent. The check you receive is counterfeit but it takes the bank 10 days to discover it (sometimes 30 days). The police will ask if you were part of the scam.
